Tamnagh Foods
Tamnagh Foods, located in the scenic Sperrin Mountains near to the village of Park in County Derry, Northern Ireland, was established in June 2010 by Julie Hickey. Involved in the food industry for over 18 years both as a chef and a restaurant owner, Julie has developed a strong interest in cheese and since 2008 has attended a number of cheese production courses across the UK and Ireland.
In June 2012 we converted a disused farm shed into a modern approved food unit – incorporating a modern production kitchen, a cheese production area and specially constructed cheese maturing rooms to facilitate the controlled ageing of our cheese. Hygiene practices and a comprehensive Food Safety Plan are applied and strictly adhered to. Since then we quietly completed many trials of variations of cheese to establish the type most representative of our region and which gave the best taste and flavour.
In June 2014 we officially launched our first cheese in Northern Ireland - called Sperrin Blue. In October we released our second cheese - Dart Mt. Dusk which received a Bronze medal at the World Cheese Award in November 2014 . In February 2015 we released our Alpine style cheese called Kilcreen. Our new cheese is called Banagher Bold which we wash with a local craft ale No.26 from Northbound Micro Brewery in Derry. Our cheese is sold under the brand Dart Mountain Cheese.
We also continue to hand produce batches of award winning granola, relishes and chutneys under the Tamnagh Foods brand. Our granolas were awarded both Gold and Silver at the Irish Food Awards in October 2014 (Blas na hEireann), and our beetroot pickle received 2 Gold Stars at the 2014 Great Taste Awards in August
As a small company Tamnagh Foods is committed to the principles of artisan production – carefully producing food with the minimum use of machines to maximise the natural flavours of the food.
We are committed to the environment – we source locally to keep food miles down, ensure traceability and we recycle to minimise our waste.
We are committed to food integrity – we source from the farms in our region to guarantee the source of the food and to improve spend in our local community.
